Mother Earth

Mother Earth
Oh Mother Earth!
If you have to cave in,
Cave in my apathy inside your womb.
If you has to tumble,
Tumble away my arrogance.
If you have to shake,
Shake off my ignorance.
If you have to flood,
Flood me with compassion.
If you have to dry up,
Able me to dry up other’s tears.
If you have to unfurl the tempest,
Unfurl the tempest of fellow-feelings.
If you have to break,
Break away my ego.
If you have to flatten,
Flatten me with devotion.
If you have to erupt,
Erupt my empathy.
If you have to swirl,
Swirl the differences.
If you have to burn,
Burn away my hatred.
If you have to spread,
Spread my heart with kindness.
If you have to uproot,
Uproot my vicious thoughts,
So that I can be humane and not just human.

(thoughts after the Nepal earthquake on 25th April 2015)
